Cassandra "Cass"  McDonald (Mathis)
Dr. Cassandra McDonald, 66, died at 8:02 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017. She was born in Detroit, MI on June 1, 1951 to Roosevelt and Dr. Edna Mathis.
She graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit, MI and continued her education with a BA in Music Education (University of Michigan), MA in Arts of Education (Muskingum University), and Ph.D. in Family Studies Intervention Strategies (Walden University).
Dr. Cassandra McDonald was an international recording, award winning vocal soloist, concert artist, pianist, teacher, composer, motivational speaker, business owner, playwright and innovator. She had public school and collegiate experience (21 years including Muskingum University and Ohio University). Cassandra was the founder of C.A.S.S.-M.I.N.D. Academy, dedicated to teaching creative arts and life skills to at-risk students. In recent years, she founded C.A.S.S.-M.I.N.D. Autism Academy offering a unique education to students with autism.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her five children, Leah, Nathan II, Joseph (Yaa), Benjamin (Ashley), Micah and their father, Pastor Nathan McDonald; two brothers, Reginald and Roosevelt Darryl Mathis; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
Viewing hours will be 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, and 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 2 with the funeral following at 11:00am. Services will be held at North Terrace Church of Christ, 1420 Brandywine Blvd., Zanesville, Ohio.
