Obituary for Charlette Maria Matthews (DAFFIN)

Charlette Matthews went on to be with her Lord and Savior in her home on November 15th, 2017, at age 53, in Columbus, OH after a valiant, four-year battle with stomach cancer. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God supported her on her journey and ultimately gave her peace. Charlette was born on September 21st, 1964 to the late Celdonia Navarro and late John Lindsey Daffin inNew Orleans, LA. After the death of her mother, in her infant years, she was raised in Jackson, AL by her aunt, Edythe Daffin White who she affectionately called her mother during her father’s military service. Charlette considered her family one of her greatest achievements, but after raising her only daughter she went on to accomplish much more. In 2005, she married the love of her life Antonio ͞Tony͟ Matthews and the two of them would begin a new journey together. With her husband, she enjoyed spending time at the Zoo, attending music events and supporting Tony with his love for the arts. Charlette would also go on to fulfill her dream of obtaining her Bachelors Degrees while serving the community in her role at the Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility. She later became a grandmother (͞Lola͟/ ͞Noonie͟), in which spending time with her grandchildren, was one of her greatest joys. Other moments were spent with friends and loved ones enjoying food, shopping and travel. During these years she was diagnosed with stomach cancer that through her faith in God and dedication to health and fitness she was able to fight and overcome twice. Charlette was a woman that walked by faith, constantly spreading love and cheer to all those whom she encountered. She was not only a mother to her own daughter, but she was affectionally referred to as ͞Mom͟by many. She was an inspiration and she constantly placed others before herself. It is her strength, dedication and love, which she exuded, that she will most be remembered for. Charlette is survived by her husband, Antonio Matthews; her daughter, Krystie (Preston) Chisolm and two granddaughters, Kayton and Parker of Fort Worth, TX; her step-son, Antoine ͞TJ͟ (Isha) Matthews and two grandsons, Elijah and Noah of Columbus, OH; her mother, Edythe Daffin White of Jackson, AL; her brothers, Marlin White of Huntsville, AL and Varicy Johnson of Clinton, NC. Charlette will have a home going service on November 28th, 2017. at 10:00 a.m. at New Covenant Believer’s Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charlette’s life.
