Obituary for YAHIENESS JAMAAL LAMAR DIXON

YAHIENESS JAMAAL LAMAR DIXON was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday, August 29, 1983. He was the
son of James L. Washington, Sr. and Kay Dixon. As a child,Yahieness attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints. He later, united with Mt. Gilead Baptist Church as well as Metropolitan Baptist Church. Yahieness was a student of Youngstown City Schools. The family moved to Warren, Ohio where he finished his education in the Warren City Schools, graduating from Warren G. Harding, Class of 2002. He furthered his education studying Communications and Sign language at Clark Atlanta University and Central State University. At Central State, Yahieness was the ambassador
for the LGBTQ+ community. He also was a prestige member of the “MiaKas,” which is an auxiliary organization of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

After leaving Central State University, Yahieness was employed as the Head Instructing Coach for the Raiders & Eagles Cheerleading Dance and Drill Team. Subsequently, he was employed at The Savoy Club in Columbus, Ohio where he worked as a Dine Cook and a Back Bartender. Yahieness was multi-talented. He enjoyed poetry. He often attended and was a participant in poetry jams to help uplift and inspire others. Yahieness was a well-known hairstylist, a fashion enthusiast, and a confidant to many. He was also an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Our beloved Yahieness Jamaal Lamar Dixon was ushered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 18, 2021. He was 37 years of age. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arilla Dixon and O.D. Dixon, Aldora Washington, and James Shavers.

Yahieness leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Kay Dixon; father, James L. Washington, Sr.; twin brother, Jamel Lamar (Tanyei) Dixon of Columbus, Ohio; stepbrother, Qweon (Datazia) Washington; sister, Dominique Washington; stepsisters, Tacarra Watson and Tameka Washington, all of Youngstown, Ohio; godbrother, Kaondre Nash; nephew, Ameer Washington; nieces, Ka-Aujinaé Washington, Key-Asia Washington, Kaleigh Washington, whom he helped to raise; and a special nephew, King Dixon; numerous family, friends, and his extended LBTQIA+ family - “The Colleagues.” Yahieness lived his life unapologetically and was a light in everyone’s life. He leaves us with this Mantra: “As Time Digress, The Inevitable Will Be Attainable.”

Yahieness may be gone, but he lives in all of us.
