Obituary for WILLIE HERMAN THOMPSON
Willie was born in Columbus, Ohio on February 17, 1945 and departed this earthly life on June 3, 2021. He was born to Francis Andrews then adopted by James L. and Anna C. Thompson. Willie was preceded in death by parents Francis Andrews, James and Anna Thompson, grandmother Leona Andrews, sisters Peggy Moore and Jean Mackey. He is survived by daughter Colettra L. Thompson, sister Joyce Brooks Harris, grandson Bryan Bolden, great-granddaughter Bryanah Bolden-Walk, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Willie served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He was a graduate of Columbus South High School where he excelled in track and field affording him a track scholarship to the University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Social Work. Willie’s individual feats earned him a spot on the U.S. Pan American Games track team. He worked most of his professional career for the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department. The family would like to extend our gratitude while acknowledging the staff of the Columbus VA Medical Center and the Home Health Aides for the compassion and care of Willie.
