Obituary for WILLIE DAVID JOHNSON

Willie David Johnson was born in Sparta, Georgia the 3rd of 8 children and is preceded in death by both parents Bill (Lovett) Johnson and Irma McClain. He met and married Lucy Mae Williams in May 1955. To this union was born four children; Donald, Diane, David and Timothy. He was inducted into the United States Army in 1956 and received an honorable discharge after serving his tour of duty. He worked several jobs in Lakeland, Florida before moving to Columbus, Ohio in 1959 where he eventually settled in to a long career with the Defense Construction Supply Center (DCSC). He retired after nearly 30 years of service. Willie went on to work with Federal Express and retired after 5 years of service. Most notable was his entrepreneurial spirit as a small business owner, his business ventures included; “Johnson’s Janitorial and Johnson’s Caretaker Service”. He hired many neighborhood teenagers giving them their first job experience. Known for his athleticism he participated in tennis and ping pong and could beat the pants off of many much younger opponents. He always had a drive to improve his station in life and attended Bliss College where he finished several classes. Willie was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing with the Male Chorus. He was a jack of all trades and what he didn’t know he would research and find a way to get it done. Willie leaves his legacy of accomplishments to all those who knew him. The family includes his children; Donald Johnson, Diane (James) Salter, David (Ariel)Johnson, Timothy (Melissa) Johnson and (7) grandchildren, (2) great grandchildren, he is preceded in death by brothers Clinton and, Charles (CS) Johnson, his is survived by brothers Herman (Pete) Johnson, Charles (Delores) Johnson, Johnnie Johnson, sisters; Sally Buckley and Patricia Jackson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends are left to celebrate his life’s journey.
