Obituary for WALATHAL HARVESTON WEEMS

Walathal H. Weems (Wally), age 81, was born September 30, 1938, in Holly Grove, Arkansas, to Nathaniel Weems and Zulene Johnson. He entered his eternal rest on March 17, 2020, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Wally along with his three brothers was raised in Holly Grove, Arkansas by their late Aunt and Uncle, Ella Dee and Edward Ewans. Wally moved to Columbus, Ohio at a young age.
He worked and later retired from Lennox Industries and Westinghouse. He was a member of Travelers’ Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where he attended regularly until his recent failing health.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers Allease, Cecil and Edward Flowers and niece, Beatrice Flowers. He leaves to cherish his memory: Wife of 58 years, Lina (Ophelia) Weems; His children: Son, Stephen D. Weems, Sr. and Daughter, Stephanie L. (Kevin) Wade.

Wally adored his grandchildren and is survived by seven: Stephen D. (Desean) Weems, Jr., Takeesha L (Brandon) Foster, Jasmin S. Weems, Kevin W. (Heather West) Wade II, Kortney S. Wade, Ryan K. Wade and Jensen K. Wade. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, several brothers and sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Wally, along with his family, was well known for sponsoring their Annual Family Fish Fry and he also assisted with the Travelers’ Rest Laymen’s Annual Fish Fry. He never met a stranger and had many friends and longtime neighbors to include dedicated friends Charles Johnson and Samuel James. He will be greatly missed by all, including his Travelers’ Rest Baptist Church Family and Friends
