Obituary

Veola Suggs, of Florida, resided and passed away at home in Reynoldsburg, OH, on September 16, 2019, peacefully in her sleep, after a long fight with Alzheimer’s Disease and Leukemia. She was 82.

Veola married her high school sweetheart, Roosevelt Suggs, also of Florida, who she lovingly was married to for over 62 years. Because Roosevelt was active in the US Air Force when they married, Veola became the dutiful Military wife and mother as they traveled together with their children for both his domestic and over seas assignments, including places like, France, Italy, China, Turkey, Germany, as well as Texas, Kansas, Michigan, and finally settling down in Ohio where Roosevelt retired from the military and the family has lived in Ohio ever since.

While stateside, she worked over 26 years as a phone operator for Southern, Pacific, and Ohio Bell, as well as AT&T. She also was an avid card player and was a long time member of the Pinochle Bugs, and international card playing club for women (and their spouses, nicknamed “pests” as the women were “Bugs”). Due to her long time involvement in the Pinochle Bugs group, she collected dozens of bug related pins she was well known for wearing. Some of her family are wearing bug pins today in her memory.

In remembrance of our dear friend and Pinochle Bug Veola: We Bugs established strong ties with Veola and will always cherish her friendship. We loved our meetings on 2nd Saturday of each month and then hours of pinochle games that followed!!! We all learned from Veola because she was one of our best players. The Pinochle Bugs Club disbanded a few years back but nothing will replace our fun times traveling internationally to play in tournaments. We will remember our happy times together. God Bless and keep you during your hour of grief.

Even with Alzheimer’s, often mom would get up early on Saturday and say she has a bug meeting to get to! Amazing what the mind decides to remember! Thank you for your kind words about mom! Patricia Suggs Smith
