Obituary for Shelby Jean Smith
Shelby Jean Smith was born August 31st, 1946, to the late Leroy and Hattie Mae Moore, in Freeman, West Virginia. She was a graduate of Bramwell High School and began her christian life at an early age at Jones Chapel United Holiness Church in West Virginia. Upon moving to Columbus, Ohio she became a member of the Mount Calvary Holiness Church.
Shelby moved to Bronx, New York in 1966, where she worked at Century 21 in retail.She later moved to Columbus Ohio where she met and married the love of her life William Smith and from this union they had three children.
She would later become employed at Woolco Department Store, Glick Furniture, Nurse Assistant OSU Care Program and Nurse Assistant, Northland Terrace/Holy Cross. Shelby loved working the County Fair in the summer. Shellby would later retire from Whetstone High School where she was a special needs assistant teacher.
Our beloved Shelby Jean Smith made her transition on January 1st. 2021, and went home to be with the Lord. Shelby was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and special friend.She is preceded in death by her father and mother Mr. LeRoy and Elder Hattie Mae Moore,one brother Donald Moore, two sisters Doneva Rozzel and Mary Coleman.
Shelby leaves to mourn, her devoted husband William Smith, three children,DeWanda Smith, Brian Smith and Bradley(Melissa) Smith, six grandchildren Brianna Brisco, Xavier Brisco,
DeShawn Price, DeKota Price, William Smith and Langston Smith, one great grandson
Ivan Netter Jr., four sisters, Shirley Coleman, Julia Bogan, Jacquline (RIchard)Stores, and
Temetra (WIlliam)Neal, one brother Jerry Moore, one foster sister Maxine Lyons, two foster brothers Wayne & Norman Ferguson,two aunts Dorothy Smith & Shirley Coleman, two sister-in-laws Roberta (Lowell)Jackson & Blanch Smith,one brother-in-law Ronald Smith, three god children Shala Dalton, Lamar & Lamont Moore and Chantel Dixon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A special thanks to Blanch Smith for her love, devotion and care that she gave Shelby, and to Beverly Coleman for her love shown to Shelby, in her time of sickness.
Shelby loved her family especially her husband, children & grandchildren. She loved going on vacation, family reunions, and she was always the first to lend a helping hand to family, friends or anyone in need.
Shelby spirit will continuously live on and her memories will be embedded in our hearts forever. Her work on earth was of great abundance and beyond plentiful so GOD rested her hands and brought her home and said “ Well Done My Daughter.”
