Obituary for NATHANIEL "FRANK" HAYDEN Jr.

NATHANIEL HAYDEN JR. was born in Columbus, Ohio, to the union of Rebecca and Nathaniel Hayden, Sr., on Tuesday, June 29, 1943. Nathaniel, affectionally known as “Frankie and Nate,” was a student of Westerville High School, Bliss College, and the former Ohio Broadcasting School, which led him to become a newscaster for WBNS. He also was a regular solo performer on the Chuck White Show, a late-night talk show. Frankie served in the United States Army as a medic. He later worked as an EMT at Riverside Hospital, University Hospital (Dodd Hall), and Mt. Carmel East and West Hospitals.

Frankie was a lover of all genres of music. He wrote, composed, and taught himself to play piano and guitar. Nate sang with various groups which included the The Four Mints, who later changed their name to The Ultimates. As lead singer, Frankie recorded many hits such as “Girl I’ve Been Trying to Tell You,” “I Just Can’t Stand It,” and many others. In addition,
Frankie sang with his siblings, Ricky and Kevin, along with family group, The Haydens. He loved and supported his family. It was his joy to spend time with his great nephews teaching them the guitar.

Our beloved Nathaniel Hayden Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. He was seventy-nine years of age. Frankie was preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca and Nathanial Hayden, Sr.; sisters, Juanita Morgan, Doris Craine; and brother, Samuel Ricky Hayden.

Frankie will be sadly missed by his remaining siblings, Julia Hayden, Donna Hayden, Teresa Hammouche, Kim Hairston, and Kevin (Loretta) Hayden; a host of nephews, nieces, other family members, dear friends, and of course his beloved pet and companion, “Que.”
