Mrs. Williams and I go back to our days at South Mifflin Elementary School. My classroom was across from where she operated the cafeteria. It was during our times of sharing after school that I learned of her sense of humor. We laughed a lot. Ms. Mary was such a kind lady. One day I asked her to attend church which was located on the corner of Wilson and Fair (near downtown Columbus). She lived on the south end of Columbus. She stated that when we (First Church of God) moved closer to her she would attend. It was in 2000 that we had completed the building on Refugee Road. She kept her word and brought her family. We shared funny remarks when we saw each other. In fact, I told her how cute she was with her new hairstyle. She responded that she was trying to "Keep up."
A few years ago, Ms. Mary asked if I knew where she could get a job. I sent her a few resources. Her texted response was, "Sorry I missed your call, both of those jobs sound o k as long as I don't have to jump out and deliver a sofa! Call me at your convenience. Thanks." Then she sent a picture of her carrying a sofa with this comment, "Can't thank you enough for getting me this job. Be Blessed."
I'm missing my buddy! It was a shock to learn of her homegoing but I believe she was ready. My prayers and condolences to the family.
