Obituary for Mary Grace Lucas (Woodruff)

Mary Grace Lucas was born May 3, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio to the late John Woodruff and Florence Jeffries. She graduated from East High School on June 16, 1961.

In her earlier days, Mary worked at the Cannon Bar until she became a licensed beautician at Logan's Beauty Parlor. Mary continued to improve herself, by enrolling at Columbus Technical Institute and completing all the required courses to earn her real estate license and a position with the Crescent Realty staff.

Mary decided to pursue a more stable career, by obtaining employment in June 1993 at Ohio Bell. Ohio Bell would eventually become Lucent Technologies, where she retired from in July 2000.

She was a very hard worker and always striving to improve her life and that of her family. Being a full-time mom with a full-time job, she managed to continue her education. On June 8, 1990, Mary received an Associate degree in Applied Science from Columbus State Community College. She furthered her education by transferring to Park College--where, in 1996, she received a Bachelor of Science degree. Mary continued her real estate career by becoming a broker. Eventually, she would start her own agency called Mecca Enterprise.

Mary, better known as Grace, was a very outgoing person. Grace was always on the go. She loved spending time with family and friends, watching TV, and bowling. Her joy of bowling landed her a spot on the local TV show, Bowling for Dollars, but her favorite pastime was shopping. She loved to shop.

Blessed to be with us for 80 years, Grace Lucas departed this earthly life on September 9, 2022.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Florence Jeffries; father, John Woodruff; daughter, Jessie Tatum; brother, Reverend Arthur Woodruff; and sister, Saundra Woodruff.

Loving Memories are cherished by her sons, Jamey Woodruff and Paul (Tina) Turnbo; granddaughters, Jennifer Johnson, Sydnie Woodruff, and Da Nesha (Denzel) Warren; grandson, Dominic Marsh; great grandson, James Johnson "Little James"; brother, James Woodruff, and a host of other relatives, family and many friends.
