Margaret Louise Harris Brown was born on February 25, 1922 in Anniston, Alabama to Verdi Mae Harris and Jesse Brown. She was an only child and was selfless in nature. Her formative years were spent in Anniston, Alabama, Southern California, and providence led her to Chicago, Illinois. She attended Chicago Public Schools, graduating from DuSable High School. During her High School years, Margaret used her lovely singing voice in choirs, and her singing continued throughout her life.
Margaret was an avid reader and lifelong learner. Her work experiences included: a neighborhood Daycare Center, several department stores, such as Carson Pirie Scott, Jackson Fuel and Trucking Company, and she retired after many years of assisting a well-known physician in Chicago, Il.
A co-worker at a catalog house at which she worked introduced her to the love of her life, Clarence W. Jackson. Clarence and Margaret were united in holy matrimony on January 12, 1947 and shared 46 years of marriage.
Marriage to Clarence connected Margaret to the amazing Jackson family. She became a daughter to Elder and Mrs. Berestful W. Jackson. Once again, providence led her to attend a service at the newly constructed “Voice In The Wilderness Community Church”. During the service, Margaret sensed an unusual prompting to move out of her seat and go forward to accept Christ. She committed her life to the Lord that day and never looked back.
The spiritual transformation in Margaret’s life led her to serve God with every fiber of her being. She often stated the words of a hymn that states “He called me long before I heard”. Sister Margaret, as she was lovingly called, served as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Bible School Teacher, as a faithful choir member and also as the president of the choir.
After leaving the Chicago area, she lived in Columbus, Ohio, where she attended the Northside Church of God and served as the leader of Weekly Noonday Prayer, and as a deaconess and prayer warrior. She was a lover of the Word of God. Margaret and her daughter, the late Dr. Sharon L. Jackson, heeded the call of God to unite with New Covenant Believers’ Church (NCBC), where she remained a faithful member until the time of her departure from this life. She loved Bishop, Lady Tillman and her church family. When she moved to Urbana, Ohio to live with her daughter, Antoinette and Son-in love, Alan Ware, she was not always able to attend NCBC, but she would press her way to the house of God at the Catherine Street First Church of God where the Ware’s attend and serve in ministry. She was graciously included in the fellowship by Pastor Todd, First Lady Watson and the saints at Catherine Street First Church of God in Springfield, Ohio.
