Obituary for LUPE DAVID MICHAEL CASTILLO

Lupe “David” Michael Castillo, a sweet and loving son was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 17, 1997 to Lupe and Rochelle Castillo, who survive. He was an answer to prayer to his only sibling, Nicole and was affectionately known to many in his family in both Ohio and Texas as “BUBBA.” He graduated from Reynoldsburg’s Bell Academy in 2017. David was the proud and protective uncle to his nephew Samuel and niece Tatum and felt it was his job to let them know he was always in charge.
David was a pioneer because his mother Rochelle wanted him to be integrated in summer camps, despite his disability. The Columbus Parks and Recreation director took a chance and allowed him to attend and because of David, special needs children are easily able to attend summer camp with typically developing children.
Not only did David enjoy life, but he took yearly trips with his father, mother and step-mom Kim to Texas, Florida, and The Carolinas. Because his parents wanted him to see the world, they made sure to stop off at historical landmarks to ensure David left his footprint throughout the world. There were trips to Disney World, cruises, and the Virgin Islands. But his true love was swimming where he and his dad could be found at local recreation centers throughout Columbus taking in the fun and sun.
David was a worshipper and spent many days singing and dancing at his churches, Hope City House of Prayer and Divine Kingdom Builders. All his church family knew him and found him to be entertaining and very loving as he never missed the opportunity to hug someone. In fact, he made it a point to give Pastor Brian cards for special occasions and Pastor Jameson could always depend on David to personally hand her his tithe envelope consistently.
Throughout his life, he was blessed with wonderful caregivers from his provider agency, Titus House. He attended day programming services through Cori Care, where he made many friends, gave hugs and gentle head rubs that only David could give, whether they wanted one or not.
David was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents, Adela and Joe Soto, paternal grandmother, Hope Castillo, maternal great-grandparents Rose and Jake Cornelius, his maternal grandfather, Joseph Bogan and to the surprise of all, he ushered his grandmother Jeanette Bogan into heaven one day after his arrival on 1/3/2021. His aunt Elizabeth Castillo and uncle Le’Ray Cornelius also preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory, his dedicated mother Rochelle Castillo, loving father Lupe (Kim) Castillo, his sister Nicole, grandparents Randy and Antonia Sickle, Guadelupe Castillo, Fannie Ruth Nesbit and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and many friends.
