“Jackie” passed away peacefully at 11:15 am encircled by her husband and family.
Jackie was born in Trenton, NJ and was raised in Bronx, NY. She graduated in 1956 from Cathedral High School and remained a devout Catholic her entire life.
She supported our military servicemen as a hostess for the USO in New York City where in 1957 she met her soulmate “Zeke”. They were married in 1959 and raised 3 children. Jackie & Zeke remained devoted to one another for 60 yrs. Only parting when Almighty God lovingly touched her shoulder to call her home.
Jackie retired from JC Penney Corporation after 25 yrs of service as an inventory control specialist. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband, tending to her flowerbeds around their home, and playing bingo with their many friends.
Aside from family, Jackie’s biggest passion was the ocean. She always remained in awe by its beauty, power and mystery. She never missed an opportunity to visit her beloved Atlantic.
Mrs. Totten is preceded in heaven by her father: Edward C. Herman, Mother: Wilhelmena M. Herman, sister: Patricia A. Herman, and son in law Mark B. Smith.
She is survived by her husband and eternal soulmate: Ezekiel A. Totten, Daughters: Theresa M. Wenger & Christina M. Lanphier, son: Edward C. Totten, sister: Geraldine (Geri) Kowalik, brother: Edward ( Larry) Herman and many nieces and nephews.
Grandchildren: Brittany L. Shute, Mark A. Smith, Christopher M. Wenger. Great grandchildren: Alivia M. Shute, Kaitlyn Shute, Jacob W. Jones, Hannah R. Jones, Grace A. Jones, Riley Barney, Andres Barney.
Our departed angel’s gentle nature, kindness and compassion was apparent to all who encountered her. Her heart was as tender as a teardrop, her spirit as fierce as a lion. Her earthly challenges are now behind her and her struggle is over. She is with God now, looking down on us with a loving smile, bidding those of us who loved her so much to be strong and move on with our lives. For she knows, in due time, and with God’s grace, she will see us all again.
For those of us who were blessed to have had Jackie in our lives, the world has become a lesser place. However we take solace that she is with God now, and has been reunited with her loved ones that preceded her arrival in heaven. She will be watching over us, waiting patiently for the day when she will see us again.
