Obituary for Imogene Joan Hogg-Denton

Imogene Joan (Hogg) Denton was born on an ice cold Thursday, in her home, on January 23, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio. Raised by parents who instilled a fear of the Lord, she accepted the Lord and was baptized in an actual river at an early age. Her love for the Lord would lead her to be a committed member of Antioch B.C, Macedonia B.C, and most recently Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith where she always attended Sunday school, served as an usher, member of the women’s choir and morning worship leader. Born with the gift of music, she went on to become a concert soloist who could sing like Mahalia Jackson and play the piano. It was her joy to serve as choir director, for 15 years, and share her love of the lord through song.
Ms. Denton leaves her largest impact on the world through the countless students she has encountered as an educator in Columbus City Schools. Teaching at Gladstone, Hamilton, Douglas, and Brentnell Montessori, she then retired after 30 years of dedicated service. As a retiree, sitting down was something she was not too fond of, so she took her love and vibrant spirit to Eastmoor Academy where she was adored as “Grandma Towns”. When not at Eastmoor, you could most often find Imogene visiting friends at nursing homes, hosting concerts, and at birthdays, church picnics, retirements, or anniversaries leading friends through one of her many games as the “Game Lady.”

As an older adult, she believed her calling was to serve families at their lowest moment, when laying their loved ones to rest. This calling was carried out through her work with McNabb, Caliman, and Porter & Qualls Funeral Home. She believed she could do all things through Christ and that included driving the limo.
On December 4, 2020 at Grant Hospital, Imogene went on to be with her Lord. She is preceded in death by her parents Roosevelt and Inell Hogg; siblings, Oscar Hogg, Ida Hogg, and her son Miklos Denton. She leaves to cherish her memories her children Nicklas (Tia) Denton and Dyon Denton Towns; god-children Bryan Dirke and Teresa Bryd; siblings, Phyllis Hogg, Mary Wade, and Jack (Sonya) Hogg; her beloved grand and great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family member and dear friends.
The source of her strength and support in life was prayer, encouragement, sharing, and phone calls from grandchildren, children and many many friends.
