Obituary

Harry William Ross, Sr., departed this life on Monday, November 2nd, 2020 at the age of 75 years old. Harry was born the only child of Helen Frances Wallace (Lester) and George T. Ross on May 31st, 1945 in Dyersburg, Tennessee. In 1953, he moved with his mother to Toledo, Ohio where she wed William N. Wallace in 1958 who became Harry's adoptive father. The family moved to Columbus in 1962 and upon graduating Macomber High School in Toledo, Ohio, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving his country and traveling the world. After his discharge from the military, Harry attended Bliss Business College, worked as a truck driver for United Parcel, then worked many years as a Supervisor for the City of Columbus Sanitation Department.

One of the things most remembered about Harry is his bright smile and his laugh. He loved to have a good time. Harry lived a very active life spending time with family and friends alike. As a younger man, he enjoyed playing baseball through a work league with the City of Columbus and in recent years, it was not uncommon to see Harry riding his bicycle around Columbus. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching football, especially his favorite team, the Washington Redskins, whenever he could. He also enjoyed fishing with his family, riding his "3-wheeler" motorcycle, listening to good soul music, such as one of his favorite jams "Shotgun" by Jr. Walker and the All-Stars, or simply hanging out with his friends shooting the breeze.

Harry William Ross, Sr is preceded in death by his parents, George T. Ross, Helen Wallace and William Wallace; grandmother, Gladys Carter; and many other relatives from Flint, MI, Toledo, OH and Dyersburg, TN.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife, Beverly Ross; children, Michael (Stephanie) Knight, Kimberly Ross Saxton, Harry Ross, Jr and Antwan Ross; children of Beverly Ross, Kathy Henderson, Bobby McKinney, Trelaine McKinney and Marcie (Beau) Smith; special sister, Pamela (Kermit) Phillips; special friend and former wife, Sandra Ross; 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

    Notes
PLEASE READ BEFORE VISITATION... During this time of the pandemic, we understand the complexities of wanting to honor your loved one and allowing friends and relatives to show their support. While it is important to us to honor the request of a family, we must also adhere to State of Ohio mandates when it comes to public and private gatherings. The protocols Caliman Funeral Services have put in place will make it not only manageable but still allow for visitation services to be meaningful. To give those who wish to visit with the family and view their loved one we allow no more than twenty guests at a time to process into the facility. This is to sign the register book, state your condolences to the family, view your loved one and exit the building. It is our goal to make this less stressful for family and friends, maintain the integrity and honoring the family during a difficult time, and being in compliance concerning the mandates of the State of Ohio. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Caliman Funeral Services
