Obituary for Georgianna P. Jackson

Georgianna P. Jackson was born Saturday, January 26, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio, to the union of George and Virginia Prysock. She attended school in Columbus and graduated from East High School. On October 19, 1958, Georgianna married Mr. Frederick C. Jackson. To this union, three children were born: Sharon, Constance, and Toia. Georgianna was employed by Lazarus, later named Macys, for 45 years. She was a supervisor in the Men’s and Woman’s Shoe Departments.

Sister Jackson made a total dedication to Christ in 1999, during a service at the First Church of God. The sermon topic was “Let the Dead Bury the Dead,” preached by Assistant Pastor Thomas Spencer. During the sermon, Georgianna felt the Lord speaking to her about holding onto past hurts. Pastor stated that “holding on” makes it difficult to move forward. This prompted Georgianna and her daughters to commit to Christ and join First Church on that day. This sermon became seed to her growth in Christ and her service to the Kingdom under the leadership of her pastor, Bishop Timothy J. Clarke. When First Church later moved into the new sanctuary on Refugee Road in 2000, Mom was among those baptized at the first communion service. After joining First Church, she began to volunteer with the Hospitality, Food Pantry, and the Senior Ministries. Georgianna enjoyed her work in these various ministries, serving God and His people.

She loved cleaning, gardening, and tending to her landscaping. She loved cross word puzzles and would spend hours sitting on her porch and walking through the neighborhood.

Georgianna’s words of wisdom were: “Many people have problems giving God credit for what He does for us. But, stop and think: It is the Lord you’re serving, and He is the only One we should give honor and praise to. He is the only One who can direct us.” One of her favorite scriptures was Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV . . . “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways knowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Blessed with 84 years of life, our beloved Georgianna P. Jackson entered eternal rest on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Prysock Starr; father, George Prysock; sisters, Mary Alice Stewart and Frances Davis; devoted adopted parents, Thomas Edwards and Mildred Edwards Malone; and ex-husband; Frederick C. Jackson.

Cherishing her memory are her daughters, Sharon Carter, Constance Jackson, and Toia Jackson; brother, Lawrence Prysock; grandsons, Dominic Carter, André Jackson, Cedric Carter, and Eric Carter; sister-in-law; Helen Massey; nine great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children, other family members, and special friends.
