Obituary for Eulah Mae Saunders (Gore)

Eulah Mae “Gore” Saunders affectionately known as “Mama” went home to be with the Lord on Sunday July 10th, 2022, at the age of 95 years 32 days peacefully at her residence. She was preceded in death by both parents, the late William T. Gore and Nannie P. Gore Lawson, husband Douglas Lee Saunders Sr, son William “Gary” Rideout Sr, brother William K. Wade Sr, nephew Kenneth Wade and great grandson Terez Stephens as well as a host of many aunts,’ Uncles, and other loved ones.

Mama leaves her legacy and cherished memories with her beloved children, Diane Shepherd, Carolyn Reese, Douglas “Lee” Saunders Jr, Dwayne K. Saunders Sr, and eldest granddaughter Jackie. She also leaves to cherish her memory 19 Grandchildren, 29 Great grandchildren and 25 Great-great grandchildren as well as many special cousins including Jean Galloway of Roanoke, Virginia and Rosalee Roberts of Columbus, Ohio.
Eulah Mae Saunders “MAMA” entered this life on June 8, 1927, in Columbus, Ohio. She attended the Columbus Public School systems and was blessed to be a permanent homemaker mastering the art of Motherhood and being a dedicated wife to her husband for more than 70 years.

Eulah Mae accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership and direction of her mother the late Pastor Nannie P. Gore Lawson as well as many other clergy leaders throughout the family. As an adult she served as a faithful member of the Saint James Pentecostal Baptized church under the leadership of her late Aunt Overseer Charlotte Gore Little and the New Birth Christian Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Kenneth E. Moore where she remained a faithful member until her transition.


Mama the Matriarch of the family was also very instrumental in serving others. She worked many years in the Jewish communities giving back to families and children that needed her assistance. She was a pillar in her Stambaugh community and one of the many living legends of this community. Eulah’s heart of gold and infectious personality gained many additional extended family members that loved and cherished her. Eulah loved her family. She mastered family time by cooking, entertaining, traveling and enjoying her family. She was truly a leader and role model that led by example. Mama never met a stranger and always seen the best in everyone. Mama not only mastered the gift of relationship building but she also had many other natural born talents which included becoming an Eastern Star at a young adult age, singing in many church choirs including both the Roy alettes Gospel Melody singers, the Saint James Pentecostal choir under the leadership of the late Doris Akers, as well as New Birth Christian Senior church Choir. Mama’s voice and strong Christian values also landed her many solo engagements and opportunities for many events. Mama, the virtuous women was clothed in strength and dignity; She could laugh at the days to come. She spoke with wisdom and faithful instruction was always on her tongue. She watched over the affairs of her household and did not eat the bread of idleness. “Mama, a woman who did noble things and surpassed them all.” Proverbs thirty-one.
