Obituary

ddie Parker was born on April 13, 1938, in Petersburg, Virginia. At a young age, his family moved to Columbus, Ohio. He was the youngest of two children who were loved and raised by his late parents, James and Anna Parker.
On September 12, 1955, Eddie enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) and proudly served his country. As an Air Policeman, he was deployed to Korea and received an honorable discharge in 1959.
While employed by Columbus Public Schools, Eddie met the love of his life Betty Garland and began to pursue the “Fancy Lady,” which he affectionately called her. They were united in holy matrimony for 34 years this past December. As a supervisor at the Fort Hayes Career Center, he received several awards before retiring after 35 years of service.
Eddie accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Grace Apostolic Church under the pastorate of Bishop James W. Gaiters, Sr. where he enjoyed serving as a faithful usher with his wife for many years.
Eddie loved his wife and family and was very protective of them. Although he appeared to be a man of few words,” once you got to know him, he had a wealth of knowledge residing on the inside. He was a clean-cut, stylish, gentleman with a great sense of humor and smile. He enjoyed family get-togethers and cookouts, traveling, football, boxing, and western movies. As a connoisseur of music, he produced music and managed a band many years ago. He was an avid tennis player and instructor who won many competitions in leagues at the Scarborough Tennis Club.
Eddie Parker passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at the age of 81. He is now spending eternal life in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is preceded in death by parents: James and Anna Parker. Eddie leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Betty, his daughters Denise (Robert) Mickens, Patricia (Nicholas) Demetriou, and Melissa Washington, adult children received in marriage Beverly (Col. Lloyd) Sutton of Michigan, Steven Garland, and Dr. James (Patricia) Garland of California, his loving sister Shirley Turner, special niece and nephews: Diane Turner Jackson, MSgt-USMC Charles (LCpl Luz) Turner of Virginia, Spec 4 Combat Field Medic Walter (Renee) Turner, a special long-time friend Aaron (Squeaky) Thornton, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
