DORCAS W. SMITH, resident of Columbus, Ohio received her call from the Lord to accept her heavenly wings on January 4, 2021. She was born October 09, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio to the late James E & Persis L., Ragland.
Dorcas was a 1949-A graduate of Central High School. She retired in 1986 after 41 years of employment at OSU Hospital in the Dietary and Chemistry Departments. She loved being a servant of the Lord. She was a member of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionist (CBTU.)
Dorcas was a beautiful soul who loved being around family. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She was a great listener, she put the “c” in confidant, had a lot of love, patience and compassion for her fellow persons. She was a Classy Lady who was best known for her love for hats and her affectionate smile. She loved to travel and see what the world had to offer. One of the greatest highlights in her life was to meet and dance with President Barack Obama.
Dorcas is preceded in death by her parents, James & Persis; sisters Cordelia Jones and Geraldine Young; brothers James P, Sidney K, Harvey E, Arben “Rudolph”, and David S. Ragland, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her legacy and loving memory, daughters Rosalind Smith and Stephanie S. Wiley, seven grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grand grandchildren, brother Rev. Raleigh B. (Estella) Ragland; a sister Patricia Fleming and “Sister” Cousin Wilma Sutton. Dorcas had a tremendous amount of love and affection for all of her nieces and nephews, including nephews Elder Patrick (Celeste) Appolonio and George (Cynthia) Rickman, Jr., and “added” daughters Marsha “Scooter” Tobin, Julie Akin and Marlene Jeter.
Dorcas, thank you for allowing God to “Order Your Steps” and being a great example of a Woman of God. We will miss your earthly presence but will forever carry your memory in our hearts.

Would you please wear a hat in honor of Dorcas.
