Obituary for Colleen Gaines Hardgrow

Colleen G. Hardgrow born to Mattye Mae and James Oscar Gaines on April 11, 1935 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Colleen and her family moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1946 it was that same year at the age of 11 yrs. old she accepted the Christ as her Lord and Savior. In later years she graduated from Central High School.

Proceeded in death by her ex-husband Al Arbutus Powell late husband Clyde O. Hardgrow and loving parents, great-grand son Darrell W. McDaniel Jr., great-granddaughter Tiana D. Ricks and step-daughter Constance E. Ford (Hardgrow).

Colleen G. “Bunch” Hardgrow leaves to cherish her brother Wydell J. Gaines Sr. (Sheila), her children daughters Cynthia Y. Powell (Gregory) and Crystal W. Macklin (Michael) and son Clay A. Hardgrow. A loving grandma to many Granddaughters Brandi Y. Hardgrow her son Jalen K. Davenport and Marquia C. Jones son Savvy T. Jones and grandsons Michael A. & Marquis D. Macklin, Joshua A., Nicholas G. and Philip A. Johnson and Clay A. Hardgrow II and a host of close relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins, great-great grandchildren and friends who she loved dearly.

She was employed by FCCS as an emergency foster mother opening her home to over 400 children and their families for 26 years. After that she took her talents and love her humanity to work with the elderly in a nursing home as an Intake Specialist and Patient Advocate with Isabelle Ridgeway. Colleen suffered a stroke in the early 90’s but that didn’t stop her she went on to reinvent herself as a Hotel Reservationist at Accor Reservations for many more years.

She was also a faithful servant of the lord and member of Bibleway Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ on Wheatland Ave in Columbus, Ohio. She loved to decorate her home for the holidays, gardening, spending time with her loved ones taking them on many adventurous trips to Memphis Tennessee. In the fall she looked forward to watching her “Buckeyes”. You can hear her coaching the entire game play by play from the comfort of a cozy seat near the television screen.

She will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Including her beloved Powells, McDaniels, Johnsons, Hardgrows, Sutherlands, Dancy and Gaines Families. Her church family, close neighbors and friends, members of National Church Residents Adult Daycare on Champion Ave where she spent leisure time socializing.
