Obituary for Charlene Virginia "Ginger" Williams-Smith

Charlene Virginia “Ginger” Rogers Williams Smith passed away peacefully Tuesday January 10, 2023, at Mt. Carmel East
Hospital, after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Charlene was born November 06, 1937, to Thomas N. Rogers and Edna (Aldred) Rogers in Zanesville Ohio, She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Edna Rogers; husband, Reuben O. Smith; daughter, Lynn J. Williams; siblings, Thomas "Sonny" Rogers Jr., Mary Howard, Shirley Turner, Carolyn Jenkins, Roy Rogers; and stepson, Darryll Smith.

Charlene’s family settled in Columbus Ohio where she worked and retired from the state of Ohio after 32 years with
Administrative Services, managing a “ship-shape” state-wide records room. She volunteered for the Columbus Public School’s S.T.A.R.S. reading program and Meals on Wheels. She was an active member of Bethel A.M.E. church for over 50 years. Her church activities included President (and co-founder) of the Forever Young Auxiliary, Senior and Junior Usher Boards, Vacation Bible School, and the Finance Board. She was a member and past worthy matron of Winona Chapter No 86 Ohio Eastern Stars.

After serving the Lord, spending time with her family was her passion. She hosted countless family picnics, outings, holiday
gatherings and birthday parties with her siblings, children, grands, nieces, nephews and everyone else who chose to stop by. She had a gift of making everybody feel included. She loved to bowl and participated in league bowling into her 80s. She enjoyed traveling the globe, she cruised often, with family and friends and she was blessed to have visited five Continents. Charlene was an avid reader and fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavaliers, and her children.

Charlene’s favorite bible verse was “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.

She leaves to Cherish her memory her children, Claudia (Mark) Cherry, Anthony Williams, Shelby (Michael) Banton and Hugh Williams; stepson Terry (Teresa) Smith; grandchildren Santana, Levonn, Jason, Candice, LeShawn, Leanne and Lequan; 13 step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren.
