Obituary for Bonna Dean Butler
Bonna Dean Butler was born on June 5, 1932 to the union of Harold F. and Lillie (Harris) Glassco in Yellowbud, Ohio. She departed this life on July 8, 2020, at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital.
Bonna, or “Bonnie” as she was known by most who knew her, graduated from New Holland High School in 1950. Upon her graduation from high school she left home for the “big city” of Columbus, Ohio, where she landed her first job at Children’s Hospital. On June 26, 1954, she married her longtime husband, partner, friend and love of 58 years, Clark W. Butler, Sr., who preceded her in death on October 30, 2012.
Bonna was a stay at home mother while her son, Clark W. Butler, Jr., was in school. In 1973 after Clark Jr. ‘s graduation from high school she went to work at Honeywell, Inc. where she worked for 10 years and retired in 1983.
She loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. Bonna was a member of the Susan B. Weaver Cancer Ray for many years. She was also an avid bowler and was a member of the Madison and Thunderbolt bowling leagues until her shoulder and arm finally gave out and she had to retire from bowling at the ripe age of 76.
Bonna was a passionate sports fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland Browns. She enjoyed calling her son Clark and her sister Julia Brown during the various sports seasons to discuss the games she had watched during that day or the night before. In addition to talking about her favorite sports teams, Bonna was very knowledgeable on the political issues of the day and loved sharing her views with all who would listen.
She was a faithful and devoted member of First Church of God and served in the Food Pantry for 15 years. Bonna’s love for and faith in the Lord was never doubted as she would always remind you no matter the situation that “God is in control”. Even while Bonna was battling stage 4 lymphoma from October 2019 to April 2020, she held on to that belief and through the grace of God returned to her home of 52 years from the New Albany Care Center on May 1, 2020, where she resided until her passing.
She was preceded in death by one sister LaVerne Glassco Evans and five brothers Marlin Franklin Glassco, Harold Frank Glassco, Danny Kaye Glassco, Joey Ellsworth Glassco, and Richard Leon Glassco.
Bonna is survived by her son Clark (Charina); sisters Juanita Lucas and Julia Brown; brother Ronnie Glassco; grandchildren Clark W. Butler, III, Louis A. Butler, Toni Anne Butler, and Tyler Ryan Butler; one God-child; three nieces; seven nephews; numerous adopted sons and daughters who affectionately referred to her as “Mom”; and many other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University in the memory of Bonna D. Butler.
