Larry Bruce Powell, 71, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 24, 2020. For ten years he battled a dangerous and aggressive disease called Dementia.
He was born on October 18, 1948 to the parents of James and Evelyn Powell. He was the tenth child of twelve children from this union of marital bliss. He was born in Columbus, Ohio.
He attended Columbus Public Schools. Like his brother, Victor, he joined the United States Army. He served as a paratrooper while enlisted. He received several medals of honor while serving in the armed forces. Upon returning to civilian life, he received a degree in Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
He was the kind of person that could not sit still. He was blessed to be very handy. He would turn a car garage into a master bedroom suite. He was always man with a plan. He had some good money making visions.
He met his wife, Patricia in the late 1970’s. They married in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1989. He loved to travel from coast to coast. He resided in Ohio, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, and California.
In the mid-1980’s, he started his own television show “Hunting for the Stars” playing on ACTV. Once the ball got rolling he was able to open the doors for other shows like Star Search and Talent Night at the C & S Lounge, Capricorn and Larry’s West. He also enjoyed writing suspense novels. He was creative, outgoing, and very persistent when it came to education and financial situations.
In 1990, he gave his life to the Lord. He was ordained as Bishop of Walk by Faith Temple Church by the late Elder Mary Beard. Later he was
re-ordained by the late Bishop Colette Jones of Power of Prayer Church Ministries. He held this position for 20 plus years, until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Evelyn Powell. Brothers: Donald Judge, Victor, Ray Powell. Sisters: Vesta, Janice Powell and Carmelia Fagain. Grandchildren: Dominique, La’Jaida Johnson and
Victor Burress, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 31 years, Dr. Patricia A. Powell. Daughters: Dasheena (Chris) Conley, Pamela, Jaida, and Nicole Johnson all of Columbus, Ohio. Grandchildren: Dwayne, Darius
