Obituary for Betty J.C. Mitchell

First Lady Emeritus Minister Betty Jean Catherine ‘Trout’ Mitchell
Betty J. C. Mitchell was born on October 10, 1934 in Urbancrest, Ohio, to William and Bertha Trout, the seventh of eight children. She was blessed with a goodly, godly heritage: her mother was an Apostolic/Pentecostal preacher, and her father was a Baptist Deacon.
Betty attended Bethel Apostolic Church of Christ in Urbancrest where her mother was a member/minister/prayer warrior, under the pastorate of Elder Richard E. Aden. She received the gift of the Holy Ghost before she was baptized in Jesus’ name in 1944 at the tender age of 9 years old. Betty has been a faithful member of Bethel for 76 years, and functioned throughout those years as the gifted and anointed musician/organist for many choirs and groups until a few years ago when her health began declining.
Betty was a graduate of Grove City High School, and on January 30, 1954, she was united in holy matrimony to Elder Robert L. Mitchell of Urbancrest, Ohio. To this union were born six children: Terry Roxanne, Emily Yvonne, Robert Jr. (deceased), Robin Elaine, Krista Dianne, and Bryce Kevin. Robert and Betty raised their children in the way of holiness.
Betty was an employee of the State of Ohio as a vocational counselor, and received special training in Human Behavior, Communications, and Professional Development. She retired from the State following 30 years of service. She then returned to active employment with Discover Card Services as a merchant service representative. She worked there for 12 years, receiving many excellence awards, after which time she retired.
In January 1976, Elder Robert Mitchell was installed as the pastor of Bethel Apostolic Church of Christ in Urbancrest, and Betty became the First Lady of Bethel. She was a graceful, classy, and spiritual role model as first lady and saint of God, and continued in this role for 25 years until Pastor Mitchell transitioned in 2003.
Following her husband’s passing, Betty began branching out in ministry, and obtained her ministerial fellowship papers in 2009 from The Ohio District Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Minister Betty began teaching and preaching under the anointing, sharing great nuggets from the Word in a way that only the “Trout’s” can do. She continued blessing the body in this way until her health began hindering her.
First Lady Emeritus Minister Betty J. C. Mitchell passed this life on Saturday, July 4, 2020. She was predeceased by her parents William and Bertha Trout; husband Elder Robert L. Mitchell; son Robert Mitchell, Jr; brothers Bishop Nelson Trout; Elder Alston Trout; Elder Leroy Trout; Bishop Ray M. Trout; William Trout, Jr; sisters Bertha Beatrice Trout; Naomi Young.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children Terry Thomas, Emily (District Elder Richard) Lyles, Robin (Mark) Glover, Krista Ware, Bryce (Tina) Mitchell; grandchildren: Rainelle (Vincent) Montgomery, Rachel Lyles, Turea (Kenneth) Roberson, Leah (LeRoy) Thornton, Robert Mitchell, Wesley (Michelle) Thomas, Amber (Ryan) Johnson, Brittany Mitchell and Christopher Mitchell; great-grandchildren: Jordan Mitchell and Emmanuel Montgomery; Landon, Lucas and Lincoln Thornton; Deion, DeSean and DeMarcus Johnson; and Kalia Thomas; sisters-in-law Judith Trout and Idra Trout; special daughters/sons including Debbie Hairston, Janet Peake and Pastor Ronald Chunn; many nephews, nieces, cousins, spiritual sons and daughters, friends, and the Bethel Apostolic Church of Christ family.
