Allen S. Dowe, Sr. was born to James Howard and Anna Margaret Dowe on May 29, 1934 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Allen accepted our Lord Jesus Christ into his life at an early age. In his youth and as a young adult Allen sang in church. He attended Dunbar High School in Dunbar Township, PA. After graduation Allen served in the United States Air Force as an aviation mechanic. His military service as an aviation mechanic led him to travel to multiple places in the U.S. and also abroad. He was last stationed at Lockbourne, Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio. After his move to Columbus, Allen joined First Church of God and sang in the church choir. He has been a long time member of First Church of God for approximately 65 years. He met the love of his life Geraldine Louise Ramsey of Uniontown, PA and they married on April 19, 1958. After Allen moved his new bride to Columbus, OH, Geraldine also joined First Church of God. They were happily married for over 58 years. From this blessed union were born three handsome sons, Allen Sylvian Jr., Adam Scott, and Evan Maurice.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force approximately eight years, Allen remained in Columbus, Ohio and worked at General Electric. Allen also worked a few spare jobs while working full-time. For instance, he painted houses with some of the brothers from First Church of God, like Deacon Gaddis and Deacon Kelly. Allen retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years as a postal clerk. While working for the U.S. Postal Service he continued his education as an electrician at DeVry Institute. He also had a contract providing maintenance service to the Northern Lights Post Office after hours. Allen was a great provider for his family. He was a hard and dedicated worker who consistently put his mind and hands to work. Allen was also known by his family and friends as someone who could be leaned on. He was very dependable and reliable. He was always willing to help others, particularly those who needed their vehicles repaired. In his spare time Allen enjoyed working out at the YMCA, tinkering with automobiles, and watching televised sports, especially professional baseball, basketball, and tennis. Allen was a man of few words, quiet spoken, and reserved, but always a thinker of deep thoughts and a man of prayer.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, James Howard and Anna Margaret (Johnson) Dowe; two brothers, James “Flectch” Dowe, Bobby Dowe, one Sister Virginia (Dowe) Cheery, his loving wife Geraldine Louise (Ramsey) Dowe, two grandsons Evan M. Dowe, Jr., Allen S. Dowe, III, and one great-granddaughter, Makenzie Renee Dowe.
Allen leaves to cherish his memory, three devoted sons Allen Jr. (Karen), Adam Scott, and Evan; one brother, Alflorence Dowe; three grandsons Ashton Sean Dowe, Andrew Shane Dowe, and Arrick Sheen Dowe; two granddaughters Nave Myette Dowe and Evana Bernice Dowe; two great-granddaughters Niya Dowe, Aaliyah Dowe a step great-grand son Marcellas (Hurd), and one granddaughter-in-law Marinda Hurd Dowe, and a host of brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
