Obituary for AUGUSTUS ROLAND WEMONGAH HOWARD

Print
Augustus Roland Wellemonga Howard commonly called Gus was borne January 19, 1945 to Louise Lewis and Joseph Thaddeus Howard in Edina Grand Bassa County, Liberia. Gus was the second elder to his seven siblings. He, his mother and 5 siblings moved to Monrovia when he was a teenager. He attended Booker T. Washington Institute (BWI) and marched with the school band and later attended St. Patrick in Monrovia. He graduated second in his class.
After graduating from St. Patrick, Gus was admitted to John Carroll University in Cleveland Ohio where he played soccer. After two years at John Carroll he transferred to Michigan state University and graduated with a bachelor of Science degree.
Gus moved to New Jewsey after graduation. He met and married Cynthia Garber moved to Liberia and they had their first son Jamal Howard. He and his family later moved to Liberia after he was given an offer as the Assistant Duty for Liberia Free Zone. He and his wife later added their second child to their family by having Sonia Howard.
The unrest in Liberia caused Gus to move back to Cleveland. He did many free lancing jobs and later became self-employed. Anyone who met Gus quickly found out he never took things seriously. He was a gentle soul and easy going. The one thing he will be remembered for is his hymning. No one knows tune but it was consistent so people assumed it was a song. His love for cooking will attest to his penchant for making people feel at ease in his presence. To his close friends he was a rock to which most leaned on. To his wife and children he was the constant presence they would rely on. To his sisters he was their father, brother, uncle the constant male that seems to make everything Ok just by being himself. To the hosts of nieces and nephews he was Uncle Gus the patriarch of the family.
He left behind to grief him, his wife Cynthia Garber, his children Jamal and Sonia, his sisters, Rachel Howard Freeman, Rose Howard Johnson, Mildred Conta Howard, Antoinette Howard Korvah, Wilma Kpohanu, his brother Joseph Thaddeus Howard, Jr, hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Gus was proceeded by his mother Louise Lewis, his father Joseph Thaddeus Howard, his nephews Garth Bennett, Gabriel Dennis, grandnephew LeRone William, his brother in-law Garth Bennett and his father in law Mr. Clement Garber.
WE MISS YOU ALREADY. WE MISS HEARING YOU HYMNING AND WE MISS YOUR PRESENCE. REST IN PEACE OUR DEAR LOVE ONE REST IN PEACE.
