I. Death at a Residence:

a. Under care of Health Care/Hospice:
Before death occurs, the family should notify Hospice or the Home Health Care Provider of their intention to retain the services of Caliman Funeral Services. The appropriate personnel will then contact the Coroner/Medical Examiner (must be notified when all deaths occur in the home), the physician, and Caliman Funeral Services.

b. Under a Physician’s Care:
The family should call 911 and an ambulance will then be dispatched to pick up the decedent at the residence. The family may also wish to alert Caliman Funeral Services to be prepared to pick up the deceased individual when notified by the police. Medical personnel will also call police and once they arrive, they will notify the Coroner/Medical Examiner, and the primary care physician. The police will also contact Caliman Funeral Services at the family’s request.

c. At a Residence and No One is there at the time of Death:
If death occurs in a residence and no one is there at the time, the police will need to be notified as soon as the deceased is found, and they will respond to the call before the deceased is removed from the premises.
