Ann’s Hospital after a long illness. He retired from the
United Postal Service in 1984 after more than 30 years. He was the former pastor of Community Baptist Church and Southfield Baptist Church. He served in the United States Marine Corps (WWII veteran). He was a member of the Minister Alliance, where he served many years as Secretary. He is preceded in death by wife, Lillian McGuire; mother, Lillie Brown; son, Hollis Garfield McGuire; siblings, Mildred Brown and Abraham L. McGuire, Sr.; and former wife, Julia McGuire. He leaves to cherish his memory children, Betty J. (Paul) Talbert, Mitchell G. humble, anointed, mighty man of God. He retired from Baxter, Inc.
in 1997 and started his own business, Personalized Property Services. In 2004 Bill married his long time friend Deborah who partnered with him in business and ministry. He was a member of Columbus Christian Center Church (CCC) where he served as a teacher, the Lead Minister over non-staff ministers, coordinator of the Personal Care Ministries and also served on the Ordination Review Team. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Easter Howard; sister Mavis Courts; and nephew, Darius Courts. Red enjoyed spending his retirement on the creek bank fishing. Red loved people and knew no strangers. He would gladly have given the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all. Columbus, Ohio. Fondly known as Jim, he was born May 28, 1950 in Columbus. He is preceded in death by father , James A. Thigpen, Sr. He is survived by mother, Louise of Columbus; sister Dorothy of Brooklyn, NY; brothers Steve (Veda), Columbus, Barry (Riccarda), of Franklin, TN., Robert (Molly), of New Albany, Oh, and life companion of 38 yrs., Larry J. Willis, Columbus, OH., and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Jim graduated from East High School and The Ohio State University, with honors, with a degree in Psychology. He resided and worked in a number of professional capacities in Columbus and New York City, as well as owning a computer software development business. But Jim's longest efforts were on behalf of people with developmental disabilities and their families. Throughout New York State, he was widely recognized as an effective advocate for the principles of equal protection, justice and fairness for all. He had a great passion for the arts, the internet, Web and software development. He developed e-commerce websites and database applications for non-profit art and government entities. Colleagues and friends describe Jim as always kind, empathetic, sincere, respectful, and loyal toward every person. His kindness and compassion will live in our hearts forever. Memorial services will be held on February 13, 2010, 12:00 P.M., at St. Phillips Lutheran Church, 1506 E. Long St., Columbus, Ohio, where Jim was baptized and confirmed. After retirement, she became an entrepreneur. She was a member of St. Stephens Booster Club, Sunday School Teacher, and known affectionately as "Mama" to everyone. Preceded in death by parents Andrew and Annie Edwards, father of sons and first husband Willie L. Thomas, Sr. and second husband Johnson Moore. Survived by sons, Willie (Diane) L. Thomas, Jr., Frank D. Thomas, Bobby (Leslie) Thomas, Ronald Hodges and Clarence Hodges; grandchildren, Willette (Nate) Crawford, Dana (Chris) Trower, Ava Thomas, William Isaac Thomas, Lena (Keith) Dodley, Rosanne Thomas, Brian (Felice) Thomas, Daniel Thomas, and Robyn (Carlton) Pierce; 12 great-grandchildren, special friend, Larane Campbell-Byrd; and a host of other relatives and friends. Milner, 58, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 1,
2009 at Grant Medical Center. Born to Betty and James Calhoun in Tazewell, VA on October 9, 1951. She worked at National City Bank over 25 years. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Daisy and Robert Baylor, aunts Ruth Mitchell, Mary E. Cecil and Lena Tayborne, uncles William Baylor and Samuel Craig, cousins Betty Ann Davis, Thomas Davis, Curtis Davis and Samuel Cecil. She is survived by her parents, Betty and James Calhoun; daughter, Angela Milner; dear friend of the family, Linda Mandeville; and many close relatives and friends. | Lynn Edwin Hairston Sr. "Linus B Gatsby" born November 24, 1950, was called home to the Lord, Thursday, December 3, 2009, after a couragous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Cynthia K. Hairston; his mother, Arlethia Hairston; mother and father-in-law, Doretta and Rodney Hale; sister, Brenda Cherry; brothers, Cecil and Steve Hairston; sister-in-law, Nancy (Robert) Hairston; brother-in-law, Mark (Regina) Hale; sister-in-law, Karen (Grover) Gilbert; children, Lynette Hairston, Lynn Hairston II, Blayne Chandler (Robert VanAllen) , Levi King (Melanie Trost), Stan Hendricks, Javon Harper, and Leon (Ashley) Draughn; 15 grandchildren; a host of aunts and uncles; nieces, nephews; and cousins; great friends and extended family of Greyship Daviz, Destination Blues and his Coal Run/Langan Lane family. He is preceded in death by his father Obediah Hairston, and brother Robert Hairston I. Linus's life was dedicated to his love of music, family, and friends. Linus worked for Longaberger Homestead where he was Sr. Events Coordinator. He entertained and performed numerous shows. He traveled the world with Greyship Daviz. Linus recorded the single "Traffic, Bumper to bumper." Also recorded with Destination Blues, Linus was gifted in piano, keyboard, harmonica player and a singer. Linus grew up singing in church for the Lord. Linus always was the entertainer by hosting parties and cookouts. He enjoyed his loving pets. He was a member of Zanesville Esquire Club and Strong supporter of "Forever Dads." Calling hours are Sunday December 6, 2009 with family from 2-5 p.m. at Wings of Hope Tabernacle, 709 Lee Street, Zanesville, OH. Service will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Steven Hale, Rev. Clifton Kilpatrick and Evangilist Mrs. Goolsby, officiating. Arrangements entrusted to CALIMAN FUNERAL SERVICES. Private graveside services for family will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations can be sent to hospice in memory of Linus, or Susan G.
